Two for one special!

I wasn't able to get any super great photos to post today, so I'm going to post 2 of my backburner photos instead. These are pictures that came out decent, but I wasn't satisfied with the final result I got and put them to the side. I've taken over 3,800 photos since January, so you can imagine how many I discard, ignore, or leave unused. The two photos I have today are from two photo shoots, one was at Pandapas Pond, and the other was another eye-macro shoot I did.

This picture was taken at Pandapas Pond, and while I like the photo, I don't see it as exciting enough to post on the blog. I did see an immediate use as a website design photo though, so if/when I make my own website instead of using a blog, I will probably incorporate this photo into the design. It's pleasantly simple.

This photo is of my friend's eye from a few weeks back. She's got really pretty eyes, and it was unfortunate that we couldn't get a decent lighting solution at the time. I'm hoping that with my new lens, I will be able to get sharper and clearer photos in these same conditions, and I will have better results for these eyes. I ended up not posting this photo originally because of editing problems I had with it, and you may be able to spot where it was over-edited.

I have always had a fascination with beautiful eyes, so I figured I'd try to take a picture of my own eyes or other peoples eye's. That idea originally was squashed by the lack of a decent macro lens, but it came back when I discovered the fun of the poor man's macro I've been doing. These shots were hilarious and difficult at the same time, especially that self-portrait shot above. I had Emily stabilizing a flash unit that I can't sync to my camera, so it was manually triggered for each exposure. This is definitely a shot I'd like to revisit and master, hopefully with a better lens and more depth of field. As you can see I lose focus very quickly, from Emily's eye to nose it's no more than 2 inches total. I need to find some blue eyed people to photograph.

So today's pictures are the result of some fun macro work I was trying. Using a reversed 50mm lens, I was able to take some pretty decent macro shots, at the expense of my depth of field. I decided to grab a bunch of medicine bottles and shot the pills I had in them. Most of these are over-the-counter ;) so don't you worry bout that. Picture 1 is playing around with sharpness, reading the imprints on the pills, the second is a test of how color exclusion, leaving behind only the colorful parts of some of the pills. Wednesday I'll be posting another macro set, so if you like these, keep an eye out on Wednesday. ^_^
